Trigger Point Release

A two-hour session dedicated entirely to trigger point work. Your therapist systematically locates the hyperirritable knots in taut muscle bands across your whole body and releases them with sustained pressure. No filler, no rushing, just deep, methodical point-by-point work.

Ideal for

Stubborn knots that return after shorter sessions

Widespread tension across multiple muscle groups

Referred pain, where a knot in one area causes pain elsewhere

Anyone who wants the most thorough single session available

01Method

How the release works

Trigger point therapy is a specific, evidence-informed technique. The two-hour format simply gives it the time it needs to be done properly across the whole body.

Locate

Your therapist palpates each muscle group to find the active trigger points, the tender knots in taut bands that reproduce or refer your pain.

Ischemic Compression

Sustained, controlled pressure is held on each point until the tissue softens and the tenderness eases, the core of trigger point release.

Map Referral

Because a single knot can refer pain elsewhere, your therapist works the source, not just where it hurts, to address the actual pattern.

Lengthen

Each released muscle is gently stretched and the area reassessed, so the work holds rather than the band snapping straight back.

02Is it right for you?

When the intensive makes sense

The two-hour intensive is not for everyone. Here is how to tell whether it fits your situation. Your therapist can also confirm during the assessment.

Knots that keep coming back after 60 to 90 minute sessions

Trigger Point Intensive, More time means every active point is worked, not just the worst one or two

Pain in one spot caused by a knot somewhere else

Trigger Point Intensive, Referral mapping treats the source of the pattern, not only where it hurts

General stress and overall tension

Therapeutic, Moderate, flowing pressure is more comfortable for whole-body relaxation

First massage, or unsure what you need

Deep Tissue or Therapeutic, Start with a standard session, your therapist will recommend the intensive if it fits

Post-workout soreness or sports recovery

Sports Massage, Dynamic techniques are designed for active recovery and performance

When to avoid the trigger point intensive

Sustained deep pressure may not be appropriate if you are taking blood thinners, have a recent fracture or acute inflammation, have severe osteoporosis, or have had recent surgery in the treatment area. If you have any medical conditions, let your therapist know before your session so they can adjust the treatment or recommend an alternative. Your therapist always performs a pre-treatment screening.

03What to Expect

Your two hours

After a full-body assessment, your therapist works methodically through every region, holding pressure on each active point until it releases. Nothing is rushed. Expect some tenderness for 24 to 48 hours as the muscles recover.

01

Full-body assessment

We map your active trigger points, posture, and the pain patterns you want addressed before any pressure is applied.

02

Methodical release

Region by region, sustained ischemic compression is held on each point until it softens, then the muscle is lengthened.

03

Reassess and home care

We recheck the worked areas and you leave with targeted stretches and self-care to keep the points from re-locking.

Common questions

What is a trigger point?

A trigger point is a hyperirritable spot within a taut band of skeletal muscle. Pressing it can be tender locally and often refers pain to other areas. Sustained pressure helps the band release and reduces the referred pain pattern.

Why is the trigger point session two hours?

Releasing a stubborn trigger point takes sustained, patient pressure, and the body usually holds several at once across different muscle groups. Two uninterrupted hours let your therapist work the whole body methodically without rushing any single point.

How is this different from deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue uses a range of techniques across deeper muscle layers. The trigger point release intensive spends the full session on one technique, locating and releasing active knots point by point, which is why it runs longer and goes deeper into recurring problem spots.

Will it be sore afterward?

Some tenderness for 24 to 48 hours is normal as the muscles release and recover, similar to deep tissue work. Your therapist keeps pressure within your tolerance and communicates throughout. Drinking water and gentle movement afterward helps.

Is the trigger point release intensive covered by insurance?

Yes. Our therapists are CMTO-registered RMTs, so sessions are eligible for coverage under most extended health plans including Sun Life, Manulife, and Green Shield. Insurance receipts are provided after every session.
